What if your pool maintenance person is not the problem?
What if your pool equipment is not working properly?
SANITATION
chlorine
FILTRATION
filter
CIRCUALTION
pump
These three work together to keep your pool clear. If just one of these is not working properly your pool company will struggle to keep your pool clear. If your pool company recommends a repair or upgrade, do it!
EXAMPLE:
Older pools with only one skimmer and a couple returns in the pool are tough to maintain. If the water level gets low, pump loses prime, no flow, no fun. Pump gets damaged, pool goes green. What can you do?
Add a robotic pool cleaner
Add a portable auto fill
EXAMPLE:
I have seen many pools built with equipment that was not sized properly for the pool. The pump may be too strong for the filter. The filter may be too small for the gallons in the pool. Pumps and filters must be matched to the pool size.
What can you do?
Upgrade to a variable speed pump.
Instal a larger filter.
MAKE SURE YOUR FILTER IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF
Regular maintenance is needed on your pool filter. It will vary depending on the type of media your filter uses.
Sand Filter:
A sand filter will require regular backwashing and media replacement every 5-7 years.
DE Filter:
Also requires regular backwashing. Plus, the adding of DE powder, after the backwashing cycle is completed. I also recommend that a DE filter is taken apart, cleaned and inspected annually.
Cartridge filters:
The elements in a cartridge filter should be removed and cleaned every 4-6 months.
Best practice is to have two sets. Clean, let dry and rotate the elements with each cleaning.
